"Missing the Pointe"

An original solo work written and performed by Mara Siciliano
Directed by Samuel Jarius Pettit

Seattle Fringe Festival 2014 at the NW Film Forum

Mara Siciliano travels back through the years starting out as an ambitious three-year-old with every intention of becoming the next Pavlova. But, what do you do when you realize your lifelong ambition to be a ballerina isn’t panning out? From her attempts to mainstream her ballet moves at the Middle School Mixer to the disastrous 8th grade talent show. The days of performing at Dairy Farms, County Fairs, and the Vancouver (WA) Sausage Festival are filled with aqua net, blue eye-shadow, and catty competition. From pointe shoe debacles to discovering modern dance in college, Mara reveals her journey as an ordinary dancer with wit, humor, and devastating honesty.

"22 Awkward Moments

A Solo Performance by Mara Siciliano
Friday, April 24 & Saturday, April 25, 2009
Rendezvous/Jewel Box Theater, 2322 Second Ave, Seattle 98121

Using dialogue, movement, music, and props, Mara Siciliano illustrates 22 embarrassing moments in her life. She opens the show as a four-year old and ages throughout the performance, closing with tales of her early twenties. Siciliano evokes and magnifies moments that are reflectively humorous, personal yet universal. Nothing is left uncovered: boys, bras, the creative desire, crying, dumping disasters, pop culture, and all the cringe-worthy moments that exemplify youth in the 1980s and ‘90s.
